WordCamp Atlanta – Prediction No Snow for 2014!

WordPress Altanta SnowDiana Simon reminded me that the first WordCamp Atlanta 2010 which was held at SCAD in the beginning of February was almost snowed out.  That is one of the reasons we moved the date to be in March. Snow in Atlanta shuts the city down. Hopefully the big storms are behind us now and we are putting our order in for some beautiful, beginning of Spring weather.

Lodging

If you are from out of town and are thinking about coming to WordCamp Atlanta, I suggest finding a place to stay as soon as possible.  It may already be too late for our block of rooms at the  Sheraton. We released the tickets and they have flown off the shelves, so it is likely that the rooms did as well . We are checking on that today.

Roommate and House Share

If you have a room or need a room or want a roommate, use the comments below to let people know. You can also go on Twitter and ask around. When you add #wcatl to the end of your Tweet, people  following the hashtag can see your Tweet even if they are not following you.

You can also check out  AirBnB and Judi  Knight has a few rooms available at her loft bed and breakfast a mile from our location,   Urban Oasis Bed and Breakfast.   Another one of our WordCamp peeps, Diana Simons, also has a bed and breakfast, The Miley Bright Farmhouse.  It is a bit further away but Diana will be driving in and out each day and you could probably get a ride.

Sheraton Hotel WordCamp Package

Apparently WordCamp weekend is hopping in Downtown Atlanta so hotel rates are going to be sky high. We were able to secure a fantastic deal with the Sheraton Hotel which is close to the Loudermilk Center for $119.00 a night versus the normal $240.00 per night. The caveat is that you must reserve your room  before the cutoff deadline of  February 19th.

If you get a room and can’t make it the Sheraton will have no problem re-booking your room at the last minute, so they allow cancellations of these reduced price reservations at any time without penalty.

There is a personalized website for registering for a reduced price rooms for WordCamp (Atlanta 2014 on March 13 and 14).

WordCamp ATL 2014

This year, WordCamp is going to be held on March 14 and 15th at the Loudermilk Center in Downtown, Atlanta, the same great venue as last year.

Our theme for 2014 is WordPress for Everyone and we have quite a line up of terrific speakers who will share their expertise for users, designers and developers, at every different level.

A very Beginner’s hands-on Pre-Camp workshop will take place on March 8 at Georgia State University. This half-day session, starting at 9:30 and ending at 2:00, will prepare very new people to get comfortable adding and formatting pages, posts and images to a WordPress site. This session will be limited to 50 people and it sold our the first night tickets went on sale.

If you are going to need lodging we suggest you go ahead and reserve a refundable room at the Sheraton Hotel at $119.00 per night (normally $240). These rates are only good until February 19th.

While you are waiting for this awesome event, you can sign-up for our updates, go to a local WordPress Meetup and check out the WordPress goodness at WordPress TV to see WordCamp presentations from WordCamps all over the world.

Our application form to volunteer is  waiting for you on our site. Speaker applications are closed and we are happy to report that we have enough Sponsors to cover our costs.
